However, his son Fauntleroy was a Unionist. Paschal disinherited Fauntleroy. The families did not speak to each other for years. Paschal was a member of the Masonic Lodge. The Masons drafted his obituary. In 1872, he gave a deposition in support of his sister, Henrietta Carter SMITHSON's application for widow's pension.
