"Mrs. Walton did not survive her husband by many years. By the time son George was 7 years old, their son was an orphan under the guardianship of his father's brother - also named George Walton - who had recently married Martha Hughes, the sister of the Mary Hughes Walton." Note from Mrs. E. Richards, 2004: "Mary Hughes Walton, widow of Robert Walton, married after her first husband's death to John WINFREY, on April 27, 1752. He was the manager or overseer of Robert Walton's plantation. She died within a year or so of that marriage."

It was either this Robert Walton or a first cousin of the same name. U.S. Army officer, Thomas Flournoy (1775-1857), sometimes referred to as "John Thomas Flournoy," was born in North Carolina and, before the War of 1812, practiced law in Augusta, Georgia. In March 1804, Flournoy was involved in a duel with John Carter Walton (1741-1804), nephew of former Georgia Governor and Supreme Court Chief Justice George Walton, over the judge's decisions for the Thomas Flournoy vs. George Walton and Matthias Maher vs. George Walton cases. Flournoy shot and killed John Walton in the duel.

Robert's wife Frances Walton is identified as the daughter of John Carter and Elizabeth by a legacy she received in her father's 1785 will. John Carter, by a 1773 deed of gift, gave each one of Frances Carter Walton's three children: John Carter Walton, Mary Walton and Elizabeth Walton, a slave, so all the children were born by that date.
