    John T. Carter has sold his interest in the land[200 a. gifted to Mary, his mother by her father, John Bigger] in the proceedings mentioned, to Samuel Carter, [his brother] the court doth order that Samuel Carter do take lot No.5 containing 47 acres and 24 poles it being the share to which Jno. T. Carter was entitled and which he sold by deed of Record in the clerks office of this court to Samuel Carter and the court doth adjudge order and decree that the costs of this suit be borne equally by the parties Plaintiffs and Defendants.

Fowlkes for two hundred and twenty five dollars with interest thereon from December 25, 1858. A jusgment against W. S. Womack and _ A.     Alfred Carter who is the grandson of Lemuel Carter had the following stones put in the cemetery: Lemuel Carter, Mary Jane Vernon Carter, Mary An Isabella Meredith Carter (her maiden name is not listed on the stone) William Noah Carter, Herman Lee Carter (a brother of Alfred?s who was mentally challenged), Essie May Carter, John Carter, infant Carter & Joseph Henry & Sarah Carter.

    John Carter, born Jan 30, 1870, Joseph Henry Carter born 1864 & William Noah born 1859 are son?s of Lemuel Carter.

    Alfred was a very caring person and as he did extremely well in the dime store business in Rome, GA, he always helped his kin folks out. His brother, Herman, lived with Alfred and Alfred?s wife in Rome until his death. Alfred passed away several years ago and he and his wife never had any children.

    Alfred was raised in an old house built by Lemuel Carter which was located way back in the woods behind the cemetery. The house is now gone but the property is still in the Carter family.
