Virginia A. Vogel, 83, a secretary who retired from the National Institutes of Health in the 1970s and then volunteered in the White House communications office, died May 26 at Montgomery General Hospital. She had scleroderma, a connective tissue ailment.
Mrs. Vogel, a resident of Leisure World who had lived in Silver Spring since 1949, was born on a farm in Port Deposit, Md. She was a graduate of what is now Strayer University.
She worked in the 1940s for the FBI and for the Selective Service and NIH in the 1970s.
She was a member of the Hillandale Women's Club and Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Silver Spring.
He first husband, Charles H. Drussel, died in 1945, after a year of marriage.
Her second husband, Ralph C. Vogel, died in 1983.
Survivors include three children from her second marriage, Karen A. Vogel of Annapolis, Linda V. Roberts of Potomac and Thomas C. Vogel of Miami; and five grandchildren.
