Alfred Carter who is the grandson of Lemuel Carter had the following stones put in the cemetery: Lemuel Carter, Mary Jane Vernon Carter, Mary An Isabella Meredith Carter (her maiden name is not listed on the stone) William Noah Carter, Herman Lee Carter (a brother of Alfred?s who was mentally challenged), Essie May Carter, John Carter, infant Carter & Joseph Henry & Sarah Carter.
John Carter, born Jan 30, 1870, Joseph Henry Carter born 1864 & William Noah born 1859 are son?s of Lemuel Carter.
Alfred was a very caring person and as he did extremely well in the dime store business in Rome, GA, he always helped his kin folks out. His brother, Herman, lived with Alfred and Alfred?s wife in Rome until his death. Alfred passed away several years ago and he and his wife never had any children.
Alfred was raised in an old house built by Lemuel Carter which was located way back in the woods behind the cemetery. The house is now gone but the property is still in the Carter family.
