We are still trying to find the ancestry of Margaret Quinn. The following is found and perhaps someday, someone may be able to connect this line. Margaret Quinn married JOHN GRAY 19 September 1827 Pittsylvania Co., VA. Margaret Quinn was daughter of Peggy Quinn. Any help would be appreciated in sorting this out. Thanks in advance. Molly Shumate
MARGARET QUINN: We know that John QUINN had a son REDMOND per his will. REDMOND gave permission for Margaret to marry John GRAY. John GRAY provided surety for the marriage of 1)Agness QUINN to Prier NORTON; Prior NORTON provided surety for marriage of Margaret QUINN to Robert WRIGHT; John GRAY provided surety for marriage of William F. QUINN to Margaret Ann GREEN; John GREEN and Sally his wife sold John GRAY land in forks of Mobley's Creek. Lines: VAUGHAN, pointers. In 1830, Pryor NORTON is living next door to John QUINN (b. 1770-1780). Note: The lines interconnecting with this family include SHUMATE, BURTON, VAUGHAN, QUINN, THORNTON, GRAY.
It seems that Redmon Fallen is closely connected with the Quinn/Gwin family, but again, we don't know which Quinn/Gwin family. Redmond was also the first name of Redmond QUINN and also in the BURTON line, there is a REDMOND SMITH BURTON descendant.
History of Pittsylvania County Virginia, Chapter III First Settlement, p. 43 - In 1745 Elisha Walden patented 400 acres on Cherrystone Creek and the following year lands on Irwin and Smith River where he made his home at a place called Roundabout. Walden became a well-known "long hunter" and explored Tennessee and Kentucky. John Kennon and John Moore were now living near Miry Creek and there was a path connecting their homes. REDMON FALLEN had made his home on Sandy Creek of Dan River and JOSEPH MAYS was living on Staunton River.
History of Pittsylvania County Virginia, Chapter V A Part of Halifax County 1752-1767 - In July 1753, William Bean, John STONE and REDMON FALLEN were ordered to make a road from Bean's on Dan River to the Court House and in October they reported the road viewed and marked. Thereupon the court ordered: "Peter Wilson is appointed Surveyor of that part of the said road as leads from John Russell's Mill to Fall Creek, and Samuel Harris is appointed surveyor on that part of the said road as leads from Fall Creek to Sweeting's Fork". . . . following tithables who lived in the vicinity of the road: John Russell and son, William Mobberly, James Duncan, David Lane, George Chadwell, Lambeth Dodson, Thomas Williamson, John Yates, William Stevens, Silvester Junal, Thomas Smith and son, Isaac Little and son, Abram Little, Charles Little, William York, James Wady, John Railey, James Cargill, REDMON FALLON and son.
