      BIOGRAPHY BY REBECCA REUBEN DYER
Lewis Gravely was a distinguished and well to do citizen of Henry County, VA.
At the age of 26, he married Miss Martha Dyer, daughter of George Dyer and Rachel Dalton. They resided in the Leatherwood section of Henry County, VA, and raised a large and exceedingly successful family, including one set of twins, their namesakes, Lewis Jr and his sister Martha.

Lewis Sr and his wife Martha took care of Martha's widowed mother Rachel Dalton Dyer until she passed away in 1864 at age 104, then Lewis was widowed in 1876. In the 1880 census, Thomas Marshall Gravely and family are living with their widowed, elderly father. On May 11, 1884, age 88, Lewis Gravely passed on of "old age."
