?Capt. George CARTER m Mary JACKSON, probably in the area of [today's] Dumfries or Quantico, Prince William County, VA. [then still Stafford] where his father-in-law Francis JACKSON lived. Proof found in a store account book. Francis JACKSON was not George's step-father. Two step-fathers of George CARTER are accounted for. The myth that Mary might be a CRAIG is due to confusion with their neighbors CRAIG in Montgomery Co. [that area that became Wythe] Three of George and Mary's children are named for the JACKSON side of the family?.
