      1778 - 1st Lieutenant to Capt. Charles Wall.
      1796 - Died Intestate without a will.
      Note.. After John's death a nasty Court Battle ensued over his estate.
      Note: The following papers were found in boxes at the Halifax Co. Courthouse by Lawrence Martin [Halifax Genealogist] who was preserving these forgotten documents on microfilm.

      Frances Moore is appointed guardian in general to Burgison Moore, Tarlton Moore, Robert Moore and Maryan Moore orphans of John Moore dec'd. She giving security whereupon she together with Alexander Moore, Davis Bates and Fleming Wall. Her securities entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of Fifty Thousand Dollars conditioned according to law for that purpose.

      The Commonwealth of Virginia. Summoned Armistead Moore, Richard E. Booker and his wife Elizabeth, Bird Moore, Tarlton Moore, Mary Ann Moore, and Robert Moore, heirs of John Moore dec'd into court. They were ordered to give Frances, the widow of John Moore, a certain tract of land on Mirey Creek containing One Hundred and Seven acres. They were ordered to do so quietly and at once. Signed: G.       Halifax Co. - Richard E. Booker and his wife Elizabeth who are the guardians of Byrd Moore and Robert Moore, administrator of John Moore dec'd are being sued by Armistead Moore, Tarlton Moore (minor) who sues by Alexander Moore his guardian and Maranne Moore (minor) who sues by Alexander Moore and Charles Wall her trustees.
      Case No# 1798-11 Halifax Co. Va
      John Moore dec'd intestate leaving a vast estate with 19 slaves. His children petition the court for these slaves. Mary Ann Moore is noted as a minor but it is scratched out. (Leaving one to believe she has turned 21.)

      Agreeable to an order of the Court of Halifax County bearing date Nov 1798, we the undersigned Commissioners have on this 4th day of January in the year 1798, met at the home of John Moore dec'd in the obediance to the above court order and allotted and divided the slaves of the said dec'd - among his several legates as followith to wit;
      Armstead Moore - 3 slaves - Valuation $197.00
      Maryan Moore - 4 slaves Valuation $197.10
      Bird Moore - 4 slaves Valuation $167.10
      Robert Moore - 4 slaves Valuation $ 190.00

      Richard E. Booker the administrator of John Moore dec'd having intermarry with Elizabeth Moore daughter of John Moore dec'd and having received estate by way of advancement in the life of said dec'd did not choose to account for what he had of dec'd estate or bring it to hotchpot and consented not to be considered in the division.

      Richard E. Booker the administrator of John Moore dec'd is sueing Charles F. Wall adm. of Frances Moore dec'd for the land that was given to her on Oct 16, 1796 containing One Hundred and Seven Acres.

      Aug 1801 Halifax Co.
      Burgison Moore and Mary Ann Moore sued Richard E. Booker, who was still the guardian of Robert Moore (minor) for the estate he had not accounted for, and to account for money he had not accounted for.

      Oct Court 1802 Halifax Co.
      Tarlton Moore was found to be of age and his accounts were settled by his guardian and uncle Alexander Moore.
