      Mr. Horace Louis Carter of 1071 Fordland Dr., Halifax, VA died Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at the age of 86. He was born in Stafford Co., VA on August 4, 1925 to the late George Louis Carter and the late Bertha Satterfield Carter and was married to Sallie Satterfield Carter. Mr. Carter was retired from J.P. Stevens and was U.S. Navy Veteran of WW II. He was a member of Dan River Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and taught Sunday School for many years. He was a charter member of the Gideons International Halifax Camp and a member of the Dan River Community Ruritan Club.

      Survivors include his wife, Sallie Satterfield Carter of Halifax, VA; two sons, Horace Edward "Eddie" Carter of Keeling, VA and Michael Louis Carter and wife, Jean of Raleigh, NC; two grandsons, William Carter and Jeremy Carter; two granddaughters, Christy Carter and Kathryn Brown; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and two nieces.

      Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Olive Branch United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Doug Gibson officiating. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Friday, June 15, 2012 from 7 PM until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home.

      In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to The Gideons International, PO Box 345, South Boston, VA 24592 or Dan River Baptist Church, 1228 Dan River Church Rd., Halifax, VA 24558 or the Dan River Community Ruritan Club.
