      Alexander Cunningham Carter married Mildred Staggs; Children: Medora Ann b. 18 Aug 1839 d. 1 Feb 1865 married Dr. Joseph L. Stephens in 1863, Ellen Cook b 2 Aug 1841 died 24 Dec 1843, Robert Alexander b. 8 may 1846, d 19 Jul 1875 married to Alice Macey in 1867, John Jordan b. 6 Dec 1848 d. 23 Nov 1898 He was in San Francisco and had returned to the Baldwin Hotel after seeing his two nephews off for Manilla with the 1st Tennessee Volunteers [in the Spanish American War]. The hotel took fire, he made his escape, but returned to assist some ladies, whe he too was overcome by smoke and was burned." Ellen Cook b 6 Mar 1854, married Robert Andrew Milam in 1875
