      Halifax Co., VA, Deed Bk 16, p. 713, Sep 26, 1796 from John Turpin of H, to James Powell of H, for 75 lbs, all that tract of land left him by his decd father's will, on Sandy Cr & Banister [River], which said land is now in the actual possession of his mother, [Edith] Turpin, and so to remain during her natural life, as will appear by the will of her decd husband, Miles Turpin. But after the death of the sd Edith, sd land to belong to me. I therefore sell all my right to the land willed to me by Miles Turpin my decd father, to James Powell. Signed John Turpin. Wit: none.
