MILDRED R. GIFFORD: , 83, of Elkton, MD, died Thursday, September 15, 2005, at Calvert Manor Healthcare Center. Born on February 18, 1922, in Rising Sun, MD, she was the daughter of the late Curtis Spencer Reynolds and Anna McVey Reynolds. Mrs. Gifford graduated from Rising Sun High School and Goldey School of Business in Wilmington, DE. She was the secretary for Armstrong Telephone Co. in Rising Sun before moving to Elkton in 1957. In 1984, she retired from Thiokol Corp. after 24 years. Mrs. Gifford was a past matron of Port Deposit Chapter #78, O.E.S., past officer of The Maryland Association of Meat Processors, a member of the North East Lioness Club, The Women's Club of Cecil County and the Elkton Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry K. Gifford, founder of Cecil Provision Company. Survivors include her son, Kirk C. Gifford of Elkton, MD; her daughter, Nancy G. Williams and son-in-law, Franklin T. Williams, III of Elkton, MD; grandchildren, Franklin T. Williams, IV and wife, Ellen, Scott G. Williams, and Donna W. Burton and husband, Joshua; great-granddaughters, Grace and Jill Williams; and a sister, Ruth R. Gamble of Rising Sun, MD. The family would like to thank the staff of Calvert Manor Healthcare Center and Seasons Hospice for their compassionate care. A funeral service will be held at 1 PM, on Monday, September 19, at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton St., Elkton, MD 21921, where friends may call after 11 AM. Rev. Laurel P. Loveless will officiate. Burial will be in Friends Burial Ground, Calvert, MD. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to the Elkton Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral home. (Cecil Whig 9/16/2005)
