Berryman Green IV, 72, formerly of the 1200 block of Brandon Ave., died June 4, 1999, at Lake Taylor Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Gay Youry Green, in 1997.
Mr. Green, a Norfolk native, was the son of Berryman Green III and Mildred Clower Green and grandson of noted Norfolk lawyer Nathaniel Terry Green. He was raised in Alexandria, where he attended George Washington High School. He attended V.M.I. for two years before joining the Marine Corps in 1943. He fought in the Pacific Theater with the Fourth Marine Division. After the war, he continued his education at the University of Virginia, graduating from the McIntire School of Commerce. He earned a law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1952. He clerked under Judge Albert B. Bryan of the Fifth Circuit Court in Alexandria and returned to Norfolk in 1954 as an associate with the law firm of Breeden, Howard and MacMillan. He retired in 1990 as a managing partner of Breeden, MacMillan and Green. He was a member and former vestryman of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Norfolk. He was a past member of the Isaack Walton League, the American Bar Association, the Virginia Bar Association, the Trial Lawyers Association, and the Pyramid Club. He was a past president of the Tidewater chapter of the American Cancer Society and the Boys Club of Norfolk, and was a troop leader of Boy Scout Troop 32 in Norfolk.
Survivors include four sons, Berryman Green V of Del Rio, Texas, Franklin Weems Youry ''Bucky'' Green of Arlington, Va., Nathaniel Terry Green II and his wife, Barbara Kiley Green, and their daughters, Elizabeth Randolph Green, Caroline Kiley Green and Sarah Marguerite Green, and Jonathan West Green; and a sister, Evelyn Green Lambert of Towson, Md.
Following a private interment, a memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Norfolk by the Rev. Charles Joy. Memorial donations can be made to St. Andrews Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends after the service at 7328 Barberry Lane in Norfolk. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments is handling arrangements.
