William McClanahan married Margaret Walker on May 12, 1818 in Botetourt County, Virginia. They were married by John Holms. Margaret Walker was born around 1800 to George Walker, Sr. and Margaret Heefner. Margaret's granddaughter stated that she was born in the town of New Castle, Virginia. William and Margaret had at least seven children:
George Walker McClanahan was born on December 1, 1824 in Botetourt County, Virginia. He was educated at Emery and Henry College, at Emory, Virginia, and later became at Methodist Minister. His first wife was Ann Elizabeth. On October 17, 1858 George married May D. (Harris) Shive, a widow with a single child.
