Name: Hutchins Burton
Sex: M
Birth: 25 SEP 1723
Death: ABT 1801 in Mecklenburg Co., VA
Marriage 1 Judith Allen b: ABT 1715, d/o Wm Allen& Mary, his wife.
Married: 16 MAR 1742
Mecklenburg Co., VA, tax records indicate sons' names, in addition to grandparents' wills. It is also possible that this Hutchins was married more than once. If this is the case, it is possible that Owen and, perhaps, Julius Allen, were children of the second marriage. It is also possible that this Hutchins had a son named William, if the estate records of Hutchins 3d are accurate. No record confirming that has yet been found. From Bob Burton of Gainesville, Dorothy Gallion, Jacqueline Hudson, and elsewhere:
5/7/1765: Robert Rowland, of the parish of St. James, sold to Charles Burton, of same, for 65 pds, a certain tract of land, mill and plantation in Mecklenburg on the east side of the middle fork of Bluestone Creek and bounded by parish lin(?), Hugh Magvay, John Ragsdale, Benjamin Ragsdale, about 100 acres, and being part of a tract formerly granted to Hew Miller, then deeded to Benjamin Ragsdale, thence by deed to Augustine Rowland and from him to Robert Rowland by Lunenburg deed. Wit: Wm. Robertson, Hutchins Burton, Susanah Burton. Recorded in Mecklenburg Co, VA Deed Book 1, page 180.
8/12/1765: Benjamin Hatcher sold to Hutchings Burton, for 50 pds, a certain tract of land of 200 acres in Mecklenburg Co on the west side of Little Bluestone Creek (located SW of the present day Town of Chase City), it being part of a larger tract formerly patented to the said Hatcher, and bounded by the patent line. Wit: Charles Burton, Edward Parker, John Cox. Recorded in Mecklenburg Co, VA Deed Book 1, page 109.
10/12/1765: Benjamin Ragsdale Sr sold to Mark Moore, for 100 pds, a certain tract of land of about 100 acres in Mecklenburg Co on both sides of Bluestone Creek at the mouth of Woodpecker Creek, and bounded where the old line first comes to the creek, the plantation where Mark Moore now lives, it being part of a tract purchased from Hugh Miller. Wit: Charles Burton, Hutchins Burton, Susanah Burton. Recorded in Mecklenburg Co, VA Deed Book 1, page 182.
11/21/1765: Hutchings Burton, of Mecklenburg Co, VA, sold to Charles Saxon, of Orange Co, NC, for 110 pds, 1 negro wench named Lucy and two small children of hers. Wit: Benja Forrest, Thomas Walls, Wm Petty. Recorded in Orange Co, NC Inventories and Accounts of Sales 1758-1785, page 183.
12/15/1765: Stephen Willis, of Halifax Co, NC, sold to Charles Burton, of Mecklenburg Co, VA, for 55 pds, 50 acres in Mecklenburg Co, on both sides of Woodpecker Creek (located SW of present-day Town of Chase City, west of community of Esnon and east of HWY 49), bounded by Glascock, the patent line, a new line, including the plantation where Stephen Willis formerly lived. Wit: Hutchins Burton; William Hunt, Jr; John Lucas; Thomas Wilborn; and Henry Hastin. Recorded in Mecklenburg Co, VA Deed Book 1, page 475.
1767: Hutchins Burton, of Mecklenburg Co, sold to William Allen Burton, for 500 pds, 300 acres (is this the 300 acres he inherited from his father?) in Henrico Co, in Westham.
