Noten enlisted in the Confederate Army Company D, 57th Virginia Infantry, August 1st 1861,at Galveston, Pittsylvania County,Virginia.
**On the night of April 2,1865, Noten was among a contingent of troops sent to Danville, via the Danville Railway, to provide a guard for the Confederate government which left Richmond for Danville on that day. He is said to have ontinued in escort with President Davis and his Cabinet to Washington, Georgia where, on May 10,1865, it was decided to give up the struggle and disband. The escort of about 3,000 men, were each given ten dollars in gold as payment for their service and to finance their way home. In August,1865, Noten
arrived home with his precious gold piece. Noten and Matilda had eight children:
