      Includes NotesNotes for Michael Watson:
The first information we have on Michael Watson is the tax lists for Augusta County, Virginia.Michael was listed in 1756, "In ye lower end of Augusta County."The "lower end" was the area today known as Patrick, Henry, and Pittsylvania Counties, Virginia. This area was often confused with Lunenburg County, Virginia.
On September 10th 1763, Michael gave permission for his daughter, Nancy Ann to marry Thomas Eggleston of Dinwiddie County, Virginia. This marriage was recorded in Lunenburg County.
Michael was listed in the St. James Parish of Lunenburg County in 1764 for the area assigned to Richard Witton, Gentleman.Richard Witton was listed on the marriage license of Michael's daughter, Ann, as security. This was the part of Lunenburg County, which became Mecklenburg County in 1765 and Richard Witton was elected as the first high sheriff.
Deed Book 1, Page 74, dated 3 July 1765, Mecklenburg County, recorded 8 July 1765.Richard Witton, Gent. To Michael Watson, Planter . . . cons. 30 pounds . . . 395 acres on east side of Allens Creek . . . land granted to Richard Witton by patent 14 May 1763./s/ Richard Witton.Witnesses:John McCutcheon, John Westbrook.
Deed Book 1, Page 323, dated 5 Nov 1766, Mecklenburg County, recorded 8 Dec 1766.William Bilbo to John Humphries . . . cons. 105 pounds . . . 426 acres on east side of Allens Creek . . . adjoining Michael Watson, Jennings Whitehead, Joseph Bilbo, and John Bilbo./s/ William Bilbo. No witnesses.
He next appeared in the records of Mecklenburg County, Virginia on November 10th 1778 when he gave permission for his daughter Rebecca to wed John Davis.
Michael Watson appeared on a short census of Virginia in 1779 in Henry County, as entry No. 4522, entering a deposit of $24.At this time the new government was asking people to turn in money because of a lot of counterfeiting.
From 1782 till 1804, Michael was listed in the Henry County tax records.Michael missed the 1805 list and his grandson Michael Watson, son of John, is the Michael listed in 1806 and 1807.
In 1787, Michael was "Exempted from paying county levies for the future".This suggests that he was of advanced years and was born before 1717.
