Phillip Thomas Carter Informant : Nancy Townsend On page 71 of the 1850 Census Coles, Prince William, Virginia, is where I found the Nancy Petty family AND the coolest thing is, on page 70, (of course I am using ancestry.com) is the PHILLIP CARTER, born 1793 (served War of 1812) family, my grandfathers grandfather (or my gr gr grandfather) with him and wife Sally Tansill (Tansell, Tancill) and daughters Maria Carter, Eliza Carter, and Virginia Carter! As the older Carter son was Harrison P Carter, and there are "Petty's" just a matter of 12 households away, I am pretty sure I see how Harrison P Carter, born 1821, was able to meet his bride, Mary Elizabeth Petty, born 1835, through her related Petty family members nearby!
