Pyrant Easley was born about 1740 (I don?t know where) and died bef. 19 Feb 1816 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. He married at least twice, first to Sarah Crenshaw, second to Mary ?Molly? Ferguson, and had a son who carried the same name as his own. And perhaps there were other ?Pyrant Easleys?, none, to my knowledge, related to me.
So why am I putting something on this page about a man who is not my kinsman? Because he was involved in the life of my 4th great-grandfather, Jennings Thompson at several different junctures:
1. Pyrant Easley served as surety on the marriage license of Jennings Thompson to Elizabeth Street, 08 Sep 1790 in Pittsylvania County. [
2. ?? friend Jennings Thompson?? was named executor of Pyrant Easley?s will when it was written, in 1813, and probated 19 Feb 1816 in Pittsylvania Co.
3. My 3rd great-grandfather, son of Jennings and Elizabeth, carried the name George Pyrant Thompson.
So, in honor of Pyrant Easley, who was such a good friend to my ancestor, I offer these bits information for those who may be his descendants. [The English surname Easley, apparently, is derived from the Anglo-Saxon place name East Lea, and is first found as the surname of Henry of Eastley in 1219.]
Pyrant Easley was also a Revolutionary War Patriot, recorded in the DAR Patriot Index online as having provided supplies to the government/military and taken the Oath of Allegiance in 1777, when such could result in one's being hanged or shot.
