Daily Time News, March 2, 1963 MEBANE Charlie Noel Oakes, 53, of Route 3, Mebane, died suddenly yesterday afternoon while working on his farm. A native of Pennsylvania County, Virginia, he was prominent farmer of the Mount Zion Community of Orange County. He was the son of Lulu Yates of Rocky Mount, Virginia and the late Carr Oakes. He was a member of Mount Zion Christian Church. Surviving with his mother are his wife, Mrs Adell Martin Oakes of the home; five sisters, Mrs Cardie Parson and Mrs Eva Parson, both of Chatham, Virginia, Mrs Lela Farthing of Gretna, Virginia, Mrs Bernice Oakes of Martinsville, Virginia, and Mrs Gladys Reynolds of Glade Hill, Virginia; seven brothers, Kelly Oakes of Rocky Mouont, Virginia, Eugene Oakes and Henry Oakes of Martinsville, Virginia, Letcher Leslie, Curtis and Carlon Oakes, all of Glade Hill, Virginia. The funeral will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock at Mount Zion Christian Church in Orange County by Reverend Phillip Kayhal, pastor, assisted by Reverend W W Snyder, a former pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will remain at Walkers Funeral Home in Mebane until placed in the church to lie in state for one hour prior to the service.
