Fredrick Eldridge Robertson, 90, of 70 Taylor Road, Collinsville, passed away August 12, 2011 at Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden, N.C. Fred was born in Rockingham County, N.C. on December 6, 1920, the son of the late Clarence and Dessie Robertson. He grew up in southern Virginia on the family farm. He joined the United States Navy following the attack on Pearl Harbor, rising to the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. He served first in North Africa and then in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska until the end of the war.
Fred was a long time resident of Collinsville and was married to the late Mildred Smith Robertson for 55 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Collinsville and was employed by E.I. DuPont for over 35 years.
In recent years, due to his medical condition, Fred resided at Jacob's Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Madison, N.C. The family would like to thank the staff at Jacob's Creek for their love, care and support of Fred. He touched many and was touched by many during his stay.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Smith Robertson; one son, Fredrick M. Robertson of Danville; one brother, Lewis Robertson of Reidsville, N.C. and three sisters, Marion Martin, Genera Marlowe and Madge Adkins, all of Callands.
Fred is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Virginia Robertson, of Stoneville, N.C. and Mark and Susan Robertson, of Roanoke; six grandchildren, Heather and AJ Felts, of West Jefferson, N.C., Michael Robertson, of Destin, Fla., Rebecca Robertson, Tommy Robertson, Joey Robertson and Steven Robertson; one brother and sister-in-law, Carroll and Raynell Robertson, of Danville; and one sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Bill Burnette, of Richmond.
A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Collinsville, with the Rev. Larry Cheek officiating. The interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Norris Funeral Services on Kings Mountain Road, Martinsville, VA. The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church, 3339 Virginia Avenue, Collinsville, VA 24078 or to the Fieldale-Collinsville Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 760, Collinsville, VA 24078.
For those that knew him, Fred was a fine example of honor, dignity and a life well lived. He loved and was loved by family and friends, and was a blessing in the lives of many. HE WILL BE MISSED!

Frederick (Fred) Morris Robertson, 48, of 231 Taylor St., Danville, died Friday, April 23, in his home. He was born Nov. 3, 1951, in Martinsville, son of Fred E. Robertson and Mildred Smith Robertson, both still living. He had been in Danville since 1970; before that, he lived in Martinsville. He was a 1972 graduate of Danville Community College and maintenance supervisor with the Danville Public School system, where he had been employed since 1972. He attended the Emmanuel Wesleyan church. Surviving in addition to his parents, who live in Collinsville, are his wife, Sharon Whitt Robertson of the home; a daughter, Sharon Rebecca Robertson, and a son, Frederick Thomas Robertson, both of the home; and two brothers, Mark L. Robertson of Roanoke and Donald L. Robertson of Stoneville, N.C. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel in Danville, with the Revs. Kendall Jenkins and Randy Watts officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville, with graveside rites by the Rev. Dr. Calvin Raines.
