Born in Pittsylvania County, VA, he was the son of the late James Andrew Thompson, Sr and Mary Alice Reynolds Thompson. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Riceville where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Choir. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was predeceased by a sister Mary Thompson Belknap. Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Ruth Parrish Thompson of the residence, two sons James Andrew Thompson III and William L Thompson, both of Gretna, a daughter Kathy Thompson Puckett of Houston, TX, two sisters Louise Thompson Adams of Java and Alice Thompson Schilling of Calabash, NC, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
