POWELL, Henry J., 93, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, November 10, 1993. He was a member of Roanoke Primitive Baptist Church and was a retired employee of N & W Railway. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Mrs. Lutie H. Powell. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Trilby Powell, Roanoke; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and Elbert Huddleston, Roanoke, Linda and Jack Guttmann, Atlanta, Ga.; five grandchildren, Romma Okerman, Highpoint, N.C., Marvin Huddleston, Roanoke, Gary Powell, Salem, Timmy Powell, Roanoke, and Lynne Hill, Buchanan; 11 great-grandchildren, Dane Okerman, Highpoint, N.C., Amy and Neil Huddleston, Jason, Crystal and Kari Powell, all of Roanoke, Ryan, Zachary, Whitney, and Katelyn Powell, Salem; Kali Hill, Buchanan; two stepgrandchildren, John Guttmann, Atlanta, Ga., James Guttmann, St. Louis, Mo.; one stepgreat-grandson, Joshua Guttmann, Clarksburg, W.Va.; one brother, John Hampton Powell, Chicago, Ill.; one sister, Laura Raney, San Diego, Calif. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's North Chapel 11:30 a.m. Saturday, November 13, with Elder Leonard J. Brammer and his grandson, Gary Powell officiating. Burial will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Roanoke Emergency Medical Services Auxiliary, P.O. Box 1801, Roanoke, VA 24008. STONE, Alice Carter, 87, of Blacksburg, died Sunday, February 13, 1994 in Wheatland Hills Retirement Center, Radford. Mrs. Stone was a native of Halifax, Va., born on June 5, 1906, a daughter of the late Thomas Townes Jr. and Birdie Wooding Carter. She was a retired elementary school teacher and was preceded in death by her husband, Brandon Otway Stone. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth S. B. and Lawrence M. Potter, Warsaw, N.C.; three grandchildren and spouses, Elizabeth Carter Byers and Nevin Caldwell, Cleveland, Tenn., Mary Brandon Byers and Scott A. Ligon, Richmond, John Ray III and Wendy C. Byers, Blacksburg; four great-grandchildren, Katherine Carter Byers, Emily Anne Byers, Caroline Marie Byers, and David Aaron Caldwell; one niece; four nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 16, 1994, at Blacksburg Baptist Church, with Dr. Ray Allen officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Books for Children, C/O Blacksburg Branch, Montgomery County Library, 400 Draper Road, Blacksburg, Va. 24060 or Blacksburg Baptist Church, 550 North Main Street, Blacksburg, Va. 24060. WILLIAMSBURG - Anne Lester Hatcher, born April 22, 1916, in Macon, Ga., died April 20, 1994, in Williamsburg.

Mrs. Hatcher was a teacher of first grade at the Toano High School 1950-1954; executive secretary to the dean of the law school at Marshall-Wythe School of Law, College of William and Mary, 1954-1967; a staff member of Greenwich Academy, Greenwich, Conn., 1967-1969; and executive secretary to the director of the Greenwich Library 1969-1984.

Survivors include her husband, James Brush Hatcher; one daughter, Marcia Ryan Miles of Williamsburg; one son, Raymond Whiting Ryan Jr. of Powhatan, Va.; two sisters, Sara Lester Beck of Griffin, Ga., and Elizabeth L. McGill of Petersburg, Va.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A graveside service at the Hickory Neck Episcopal Church will be private by family.

Memorials may be made to the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Ave., New York, N.Y., 10021 or to the Hospice of Williamsburg, P.O. Box 568, Williamsburg, Va. 23187.
