Zada P. Oakes, 94, died on January 13, 2018 at Roman Eagle Nursing Home in Danville. She was born in Martinsville on March 17, 1923 to Pearl G. and Lafe P. Prillaman, who predeceased her. Also preceding her in death were her sister Norris P. Miller, brothers James A. Prillaman, A. Otis Prillaman, L. Berkley Prillaman, and Kenneth G. Prillaman, her husband, Calvin C. Oakes.
Zada is survived by her sister Clara P. Davis and brother A. Norman Prillaman; three children, Donna O. Jones (Roy), Gary C. Oakes (Gail) and Joy M. Oakes (Thomas Cassidy); four grandchildren.
After graduating from Madison College with a degree in education, Zada taught high school until her marriage. When she retired from the Pittsylvania County Department of Social Services in 1989, Zada was named ?Woman of the Day? by WBTM in recognition of her 29+ years of service.

State of Kentucky Logan County SS September 12 1833
This day Susan Clark late Susan Scott aged seventy years personally appeared before me Philip C Slaughter a Justice of the Peace in & for the County & state aforesaid and made oath in due form of law that shortly after John Scott as she understood from him & from others became a supernumerary officer in the Army of the Revolutionary war in 1781 she intermarried with him, that the said John Scott was a Lieutenant in the Regiment commanded by Colonel Thomas Marshall of the Virginia State line of Artillery as she understood and believes having frequently seen his commission & previous to their intermarriage made a case for it. That after his term of service expired he was called Captain Scott. That she had by said Scott the following children, William B. Scott, Mildred S Scott, Lucy Scott and John W Scott, Lucy Scott, intermarried with Branch Bibb, Mildred Scott intermarried with Ballard Davenport and had the 3 following children viz. Doratha, Richard James & Mary Ballard who are still living but their mother Mildred is dead, William B Scott is dead, but has two children only viz. George B Scott & John James Scott who are now the legal representatives of said Captain John Scott deceased who departed this life on the __ day of June 1790.
