    Notes:

Martha Ann Jackson, d/o James Samuel and Judith Emmerson Jackson is the niece of Levi Jackson. Levi and his wife Ann Emmerson (sister to Martha's mother, Judith) had no children of their own and reared Judith's children after her death in circa 1828. Martha too, was probably in their household in the 1830 Census which shows one female child age 10-15 along with 6 other children. Levi and Ann had no children. Presumably these children are those of Ann's sister. It is likely that Martha named her eldest son, Levi for her uncle who helped raise her.
At the time of the 1880 Census they were living in Franklin Co., next door to Susan Bryant, proven to be a daughter of James, (sister of Martha Ann) Martha Ann is named for her mother's grandmother, Martha Walker.

    Buried:

The 'modern' marker for Allen Gilmer and Martha Ann Jackson Reynolds was installed by Mrs. Ruth Mae Reynolds Marlowe, d/o William Barton "Bart" and Nancy "Nannie" Reynolds. Martha Ann Jackson was Ruth's grandmother.
Martha Ann Jackson is the daughter of James Samuel Jackson and Judith Emmerson. Judith Emmerson is the daughter of John Emmerson. Judith Emmerson DOB of 1787 is from an entry in the LDS IGI. She was deceased by Jan 1833 when James Jackson married a second time and two of her younger children were in the household of her sister and brother-in-law Anne Emmerson Jackson and Levi Jackson.

    Notes:

Deed: September 19, 1771, 248 acres Terrible Creek, John Jackson of Halifax County to Ephraim Jackson, same county, 248 acres branch of Terrible Creek, granted to Martin Brown by Letters Patent 16 August 1756 and sold to John Jackson, father to above named John and Ephraim Jackson and deeded to him. Signed John Jackson. Witnesses: George Watkins, John Leak, Micajah Watkins, Wm Lawson, John Milner. Recorded September 19, 1771 (Halifax DB 8, page 260) Hannah was his widow and she retained her dower right to one-third of the 248 acres which amounted to 80 acres. She shows up on the Halifax County tax lists until 1800. Because she was a widow she paid no taxes. There was another John Jackson in Halifax County at the same time, which greatly increases the research difficulties. He was from Amelia/Prince Edward and his family has been well researched.

John Jackson, Sr. lived on Terrible Creek, Halifax County, Virginia. He was there at least by 1763 when he bought the land described below. Deed: Martin Brown of Halifax County sells to John Jackson of the same county 248 acres on the north fork of Terrible Creek, beginning at William Russell's, Givens line, John Sparrows - signed by Martin W. Brown, his wife Mary acknowledges her dower. Witness by James Bates, James Leek, William Leek, December 15, 1763 (3rd year of the reign of George 3rd.) (Halifax DB 4, page 443). This is the same land he gave to his sons John Jr. and Ephraim.

  2. 9.  Hannah Mrs. John Jackson was born Est 1730; died Abt 1800, Halifax Co., Virginia.

    Notes:

Hannah Jackson's age is estimated from the fact that John,
Jr., her presumed son was born before 1750. She lived
until about 1800 when she went off the tax rolls - although
she never paid taxes because she was a widow.
