John L. Williams lived next door to Alton Baptist Church and donated the land on which the church is built.

John married Winnifred Vaughan 'Winnie' Green 25 Jul 1872. Winnifred (daughter of Nathaniel 'Paul' Green and Martha 'Patsy' Warren) was born Jan 1853, Virginia; died 6 Jun 1927, Halifax County, Virginia; was buried 8 Jun 1927, Alton Baptist Church Cemetery in Alton, Halifax, VA. [Group Sheet]

Birth:
It is doubtful that Patsy Warren Green was still having children in 1853 when Winnie is reportedly born. She is likely a granddaughter, mothered by one of Paul & Patsy's daughters.


Name:
Winifred Vaughan Green is named for her Father's Mother. Winifred, d/o Nathaniel Paul Green, is born 3 years after his Mother's [Elizabeth Winifred Vaughan] death. His DOB appears as 1803 and Anthony's marriage to Elizabeth W. Vaughan is 1808; One of them brought this child to the marriage or his DOB is recorded inaccurately.

Haywood married Rebecca Graves. Rebecca was born 22 Apr 1829, Milton, Caswell Co., NC; died 1861, Caswell Co., North Carolina. [Group Sheet]

Notes:

There continues to be an absence of documentation for the parentage of Paul Green. I once believed he must belong to Anthony; I now theorize that he is the son of one of Anthony's Sisters. Each of Berryman & Ann Pritchard Green's daughters married after Nathaniel's birth; Ann Pritchard Green, Berryman's daughter, married 12 Jul 1805, John Barksdale and eventually moved to DeKalb, MS. The 2nd daughter of Berryman and Ann, Lucy married Stephen Davenport in Oct 1804; 3rd Daughter, Hannah Jones Green is said to have never married, but was 'of age to have a child' in 1803 when Paul Green was born. He lived and died in Halifax Co., Virginia, among his neighbors and other members of his family. The Carters, Gravitts, Warrens, Greens, Blackwells. He is buried in his Son's Family Cemetery.

Notes:

Paul Green and Patsy Warren had 7 children by the 1840 census. 3 [2 boys, 1 girl] under 5, 2 [1 boy and 1 girl] 10-14, and 1 daughter age 15-19. They had been married about 17 years at this time. The eldest daughter is probably AVA, shown on the 1850 and 1860 Census.

Died:
Is is said that Martha 'Patsy' Warren, wife of Paul Green, died 18 Nov 1859, yet she is shown on the 1860 Southern District, Halifax, Virginia Census as age 57. If all of the census entries for other members of this hh are incorrect; how can we rely on this fact.

Husband married Hannah Jones Green. Hannah (daughter of Captain Berryman Green and Anne Pritchard) was born Abt 1783, Westmoreland County, Virginia; died 14 Dec 1841, Halifax County, Virginia. [Group Sheet]

Name:
It is said by reputable sources that Hannah Jones Green did not marry. Her Sister, Lucy married Mr. Davenport in 1804; I believe that Nathaniel Paul Green is the s/o Hannah or Lucy Green. He named a daughter Lucy. No evidence of his parentage has been found by any researcher we know of.
