  1. 8.  William J. of John of Peter [Utter] ReynoldsWilliam J. of John of Peter [Utter] Reynolds was born 19 Jul 1753, North Kingstown, Washington Co., Rhode Island (son of Lieut. John5 L. of Peter [RI] Reynolds and Anne Utter); died 4 Oct 1841, North Kingstown, Washington Co., Rhode Island.

    Notes:

    Thomas and William Marshall were brothers, and natives of Ireland, who came into this section at least as early as 1779. Thomas Marshall located upon the land now owned by R. T. Johnson, upon which he had a distillery in operation in 1784. He was an elder in Cross Creek Church. In 1800 he sold his property in this township to Col. James Marshel, and removed to Smith township, in this county. In 1827 he again sold out, going to Ohio, where he died in 1839, at the age of ninety
    -six years. The property which Thomas Marshall owned in Cross Creek township was warranted to him March 31, 1786, and surveyed Oct. 24, 1787. The tract contained four hundred and five acres, was called "Buck Forest," and was bounded by the lands of WILLIAM REYNOLDS, John Marshall, John Tennel, and Thomas Marques.

    William Reynolds was ensign of the First Company, Trainpband, in June 1775; and was a private in a Rhode Island Troop under Capt Clarke and Col. Brown and received a pension from the United States for his services. (See Vol. XII, p.338, "Vital Statistics of Rhode Island.") Late in life he became almost blind and death was after a fall down a flight of stairs.
