From the Barksdale family history:
Claiborne studied medicine at the University of Pa., 1822-23 & then under his brothr-in-law, Dr. Thomas Warrener White. He practiced in Pittsylvania County for a time and later in Halifax County.

His first wife was Harriet T. White
Her obit from the Lynchburg Virginian, June 9, 1828, p.3, col.5 reads:
BARKSDALE, MRS. HARRIETT T. died May 3, 1828, age 24 years, at "Locust Hill" in Halifax County. She was the wife of Dr. Claiborne Barksdale. She was survived by her husband and 3 children.

Died:
If he died in 1860, it was after the date of the census [13 Aug 1860] for 1860 where he appears with Stella M. 51, Agness M 24, Judith B. 21, S.C. 18, Thoa W. 15, J.W. 13, H.A.7, C.W. 24.

Claiborne married Sarah Normet 'Sallie' Whitlock 9 Dec 1831, Halifax Co., Virginia. Sarah (daughter of Achilles Whitlock and Agnes Morton Barksdale) was born 1802, Halifax County, Virginia; died 1893, Halifax County, Virginia. [Group Sheet]

A cemetery book, written by George Calvin, states the Barksdale Cemetery with 3 graves was located to the back of Cedar View with Beverly I, Judith and 8 year old John buried there. The rock enclosed cemetery was destroyed after Cedar View Burned.

It is believed that Henry Barksdale was twice married before his arrival in Henry County. Both of his wives bore the Christian name of Judith. No documentary evidence as to their surnamessurvives; however, from the given names of his sons, it appears probable that the first wife was a Dudley or a Claiborne, and the second was Beverley, or at least they were connected with these families in some way....
