Men of the community or adjoining communities would contest with each other in the skill of riding a horse at full tilt down a track and by means of a long lance, pick off rings suspended from poles by putting the lance through the rings. It was at such a meet that Johnson first met Mary Brumfield, who won his heart.

William Garrett and his wife and children were charter members of Greenpond Baptist Church. It is said that they gave the wood for the first little church building. Their love for our Lord and service to Him are a treasured heritage.

William Garrett Reynolds published his last will and testament January 9, 1868 and died 19 days later.

William Garrett Reynolds was named for his maternal grandmother, Ann Garrett, mother of Sarah Ann Philpott.

William Garrett Reynolds was a farmer, and a Baptist. He was a member of the Home Guards during the Civil War. He lived in Both Pittsylvania and Henry Counties, Virginia. His last place of residence was near Climax, Virginia.

John Devin Reynolds is the 2nd son of Joseph M. Reynolds and his wife, Margaret Devin. Named for his Uncle John, and his Mother's Maiden name [Devin], he was born in 1783. He died 18 Mar 1831. His death was not an easy one. He writhed in agony from what we know today, as kidney stones, and after 9 days, finally succumbed to his exhaustion. His wife, described his agony and mortification in a letter to her daughter, Herodias in Missouri.

Because John's father, Joseph M. Reynolds had two wives, he enjoyed the company of 17 siblings. Eldest brother, Hugh is beginning his family in the same year his father produces his final heir.

150 years ago.....April 6,1865. POW Sgt.Samuel Brittain Blair jr. an older brother to my Ggrandfather Luther Rice Blair,and one of 7 Blair brothers in the Confederacy,was with the Pittsylvania Co. Va. Chatham Greys of the 53rd Inf. Va. They fought most major battles in Va./Md/Pa. The 53rd suffered huge losses at Gettysburg and was one of the few "over the wall" in Picket's Charge. Samuel was a Sgt. at the time of his capture in Farmville,Va. (Saylors Creek) on the Confederate withdrawal from Richmond & Petersburg in the last days before Appomattox,the surrender. Captured April 6,1865, and sent to Newport News,Va. to a Union prison camp 3 days before the surrender April 9,1865
