Narrative History:
Oleta was educated at Flora High School in Flora, Oregon.
Along with being a farm wife and young mother, she also
taught school. She rode horseback with the three oldest
children to teach her students. Her married life was spent
working along side Ira dairying, raising a garden, canning
fruits and vegetables, cooking, cleaning & all the
multitude of chores associated with each. She also did a
lot of sewing making clothes & creating quilts that were
given to her grandchildren. Because of the hardships of of
raising ten children during the 1930's depression, out on
homesteaded ground, nothing went to waste in creating gifts
for her family & decorations around her home. Died at her
Lyle Gulch home of heart failure. She commented she was
tired while tending her garden and went in the house to lay
down. She passed away in her sleep.

stones. A man at the Lewis Clark Memorial Cemetery told us
that the Vineland Cemetery is in trouble financially.

Biographical Narrative:
Nels J. Hansen was born in Denmark. Little is known about
his childhood. He
came to the USA in his early teens. He became a carpenter
and millwright. He
moved to the Spokane, WA area and worked to construct the
first flour mill in
that area. Later he and his family moved to North East
Oregon and settled in
the Flora, Wallowa and Lostine area. He operated the post
office and store in
Lostine for several years. He died at the home of his
daughter, Ethe,l in Salem,
Oregon.

Landsarkivet for Sjaelland M. M., "In reply to your letter
of June 6 to Haerens Arkive, we can inform you that Niels

To all whom it may concern be it known that John Cones of
the Town of Norristown in the County of Shelby stands
indebted to me in the sum of one hundred and twenty seven
dollars for work and labor and for materials furnished in
and about the building and finishing of a certain frame
house which I erected for a Dewling [sic] House for him the
said Cones on Lot Number 26 in said Norristown which said
debt has not yet been due two months the public and John
Cones and are therefore notified of my intention to hold a
lien on said building for the said sum of one hundred and
twenty seven dollars and that in due time I will comence
proceedings to subject said house to sale for said debt
