    Named as mother of his, Henry James 'as if born in wedlock'. [see docs] Winnifred is listed on the 1850 Census with James Carter with children Sarah, 21, Elizabeth 18, Alexander 16, W.J. 14, Flora 12 and George 9. Henry J. is not found in this hh. It would appear that he has already left the family to establish his own hh. Wife Ella V. reports the death of Henry J. Carter who dies during the probate period of James Carter. James, Winifred and Sarah are born in N. Carolina; other children are born in Alabama.
