    Charles Richard Gilman 91, died in his home in Bremerton under the care of his children on October 18, 2011.

    Born in Seattle to George and Mildred Gilman, he attended Roosevelt High and Bainbridge Island High where he graduated. He received his Naval officer commission at Northwest University in Chicago. During WWII he commanded a PT boat in the Solomon Islands and served on the USS Mahan. He participated in the release of American prisoners of war in Tokyo Bay.

    After the war he attended the UW School of Architecture. A resident of Bremerton since 1953, he designed homes and commercial buildings such as the current Kitsap Airport Terminal, medical offices and Haselwood car dealerships. He was married to his wife Kay for 48 years. He loved the Pacific Northwest and boating and sailing.

    He is survived by his children, Paul Gilman of Palo Alto, CA; Susan Bedard of Absarokee, MT; Nick Gilman of Poulsbo; 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
