Please Note: The mother for Joseph Alpha Carter listed on this document, is actually his Grandmother, Susan H. Gravitt; Mattie Carter, the widow of Joe never met her husband's biological mother. Joe's Mother, Susie and his step-mother, Sallie Fannie are both, daughters of Susan Gravitt and William Green. Documentation later discovered that George T. Carter was also known as Gravitt; presumably Mattie Carter knew her husband's father as George T. Gravitt.
