JAMES McCLANAHAN, son of John and Janet (Buchanan) McLanahan of County Armagh-Ireland, of Scotch-Irish descent, immigrated to Pennsylvania, from Co. Armagh, Ireland, sometime prior to 1734. JAMES McCLANAHAN, son of John and Janet (Buchanan) McLanahan of County Armagh-Ireland, of Scotch-Irish descent, immigrated to Pennsylvania, from Co. Armagh, Ireland, sometime prior to 1734. He seems to have first settled on Octorara Creek, in Lancaster County, where he purchased a tract of 200 acres, the warrant of survey for the same being dated 17 May, 1734. (Pennsylvania Archives, Third Series, XXIV, 466.) He later purchased a large tract of land at a point which became Greencastle, Franklin County, to which he removed, and there lived in a log fort.
