    The following train which brought the remains of Mrs. Mercy A. Richards and friends to Rising Sun on last Sunday consisted of an engine and a handsome car. Many of the relatives being in the railroad employ. Some of whom have about gained the top round of the ladder.



    Death of an Estimable Woman.
    Mrs. Mercy A. Richards, relict of Isaac Richards, formerly of Porter's Bridge, died at the
    residence of her brother-in-law, Charles A. Lincoln, Philadelphia, on Thursday last. She
    was a woman of superior character and posessesed the confidence of a large circle of
    friends. The funeral took place on Sunday and her remains were interred in the West
    Nottingham Friends burying ground. An address was made by Wm. Way, of Cecil county.
    The deceased was a sister of Benjamin C. Reynolds, of Oxford, and Joseph T. Reynolds,
    of East nottingham, Chester county. Among the many relatives and friends who attended
    the funeral were George Sturges, chief clerk of the Board of Surveyers, Philadelphia; Wm.
    H. Brown, Chief Engineer of the Penna. R. R. ; Charles A Lincoln, Prothonotary U. S.
    Circuit Court, Philadelphia; Lewis Richards, Esq., Media and others. Her son, Jos. T.
    Richards, First Assistant Chief Engineer of the Penna. R. R., was unable to attend the
    funeral, as he is ill with typhoid pneumonia at his residence in Philadelphia. The
    Pennsylvania Railroad Company out of courtesy to her son furnished a special car to
    convey the remains and accompanying friends to the place of interment.

    On Tuesday the 27th ulto., at half past eight o'clock, at his residence in the Eighth district of this county, William J. Preston, a prominent and well known citizen of the community passed away, in the 58th year of his age. The disease which caused his death was Bright's disease of the kidneys, from which he had suffered for some time. His funeral took place on Sataurday last, 31st ulto. was attended by well over one thousand persons, over two hundred carriages being in the procession. The remains were interred in the cemetery attached to the favorite Meeting House of deceased, Octoraro, of which society he was an elder

    William Preston Reynolds, a well known resident of this section, died suddenly early Monday morning at his home near Farmington, from a stroke of paralysis suffered about nine o'clock Sunday night. His death came as a great shock to his friends. He followed farming for years, later devoting his attention to real estate, and sold many properties in this neighborhood. He was twice married, his first wife being a Miss Harriet Headley. He is survived by his second wife, who before marriage was a Miss Sabina C. Slicer, and three children by the first marriage; James of Coatesville; Mrs. Esther Pennock, of Philadelphia; Mrs. Ilena Grace Walton, of Kingsbridge, Pennsylvania. Interment in Rosebank Cemetery.

    Gilpin Reynolds, of Fulton Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, arose early Sunday morning and committed suicide by shooting himself with a gun. His body was found in the woods near his home. The supposition is that Mr. Reynolds had entered the woods, he cut a forked stick, rested the butt of the gun on the ground and holding the muzzle of the barrels close to his head pressed the triggers with the stick. The loads tore off the back of his head. Mr. Reynolds had been manager of the Fulton Township for several years. The deceased was a son of Vincent Reynolds and Lydia Preston Reynolds of Fremont, and a brother of William Preston Reynolds of this place. He was 49 years of age, and leaves a wife and one daughter.
