John Jay Tincher, age 60, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. John was born on September 21, 1954, in Columbia, Missouri, to William J. Tincher and Cornelia I. (Cox) Tincher. He spent early childhood in Columbia, MO, and excelled in math and science at the University 0f Missouri Laboratory School. In late childhood, his family settled in Whitewater, where their ancestral history dates back to Dr. James Trippe (settled from New York in 1839). John graduated from Whitewater High School in 1972, and bought his first rental business in conjunction with working for Ketterhagen Ford. In 1989, John became a real estate broker and bought Steck Realty which he re-named Tincher Realty. He grew his company into one of the top real estate businesses in the Whitewater and tri-county area. John was a strong supporter for the expansion of local business development. In 1995, John was instrumental in securing land for the local power plant to be built. John was proud of the quality housing he provided to thousands of university students over the course of his career and enjoyed cheering them on at Warhawk events. He continued to work at his office until his final days in large part due to the enjoyment he found in visiting with his staff.
As a father, John enjoyed skiing, hunting, building furniture, farming, and going to Brewers games. Some of his greatest pleasures came from vacationing in northern Wisconsin and Colorado with his family. John was an avid follower of college and youth sports in Whitewater. He found great pleasure in spending time with his new grandchildren and was looking forward to the arrival of his third grandchild in September. John was appreciative of all the friends he had made throughout his life. He looked forward to the annual Ducks Unlimited banquet and Warhawk Auction.
In 2014, he was inducted into the University of Wisconsin Whitewater Hall of Fame for his distinguished service in supporting the university, local schools, and the citizens of Whitewater in various capacities over his lifetime. John was previously the treasurer of the Greater Whitewater Committee and one of its founding members.
John is survived by his four children: Joshua Tincher (Amy) of Janesville, Annalisa David (Arun) of Glencoe, IL., Marcus Tincher (Sara) of Whitewater and Trey Tincherof Whitewater; grandchildren, Nellie Tincher, Emmy Tincher and a grandchild due September 11, 2015; siblings, Gerald Tincher of Vancover, ON, Hugh Tincher of Columbia, MO, Sylvia (Bob) Berry of IA,; brother-in-law, John Meyerscough of MO; Also numerous nieces and nephews that adored him.
