[Va Patent Bk 6:445]. 474 acres of this wa s called "World's End" and had been granted Mathew Edlow on 2 Oct 1656. In 1691, he deeded t o Thomas Farrar and Katherine, his wife (who was said Richard's daughter) 256 acres of "World' s End" "where I now live" bounded by the [James] River and William Ballow. In his will date d 16 Mar 1694/5, Richard Perrin bequeathed "my house and land commonly called "World's End" , 400 acres with 200 acres fronting river, to my dear wife Katherine for life, and at her death to daughter Sarah. . . ." This daughter Sarah married William Cocke 2 Dec 1695. William Cocke made his will 5 Nov 1717 and left "all my lands" to his son William.

    Samuel Smith Carter married widow Ann Heisler Douglas in Richmond in 1811 and died in 1832, leaving his wife Ann and their children, who moved in with Samuel's brother John at Myrtle Grove (now Forest Lawn Cemetery) where they stayed until death. All are buried there and headstones are still present as the estate was sold and converted to a cemetery much later on, but their stones remain among all the more recent ones. This is the only link I have connecting Samuel to John and thus to Carter and Martha, in addition to the clue of his middle name Smith matching his mother's maiden name, but I think it is a very good one.     George Washington Carter, born on February 22, 1825, was one of several children born to Samuel S. and Ann Douglass Carter of Henrico County, Va. He was married on September 19, 1850 to a local girl, Lucy Ann Redd, who died after giving birth to her fifth child in 1861. Left with young children to raise, Carter married Emma Gouldin, a cousin of his first wife, in 1863, and together they added six children to the family. On May 9, 1863, he was appointed by the justices of the Henrico County Court to serve as Deputy Sheriff of Henrico County under George D. Pleasants. After the war, Carter was elected Commissioner of the Revenue and later Clerk of the Circuit Court for Henrico, which he held until 1888. At the time of his death, he was a member of and the clerk of theHenrico County School Board. "A kind-hearted, popular gentleman," Carter died at his Henrico County residence on February 22, 1892, and is buried in the cemetery at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Henrico County, Va.- Paul Jesperson

    Obadiah W. Michaux, born 14 August 1785 (date from Rev. Michaux Raine) is shown to be the son of Joseph Michaux and Judith Woodson in The Huguenot Abraham Michaux and Descendants by J. D. Eggleston published in Genealogies of Virginia Families from The Virginia Magazine of History and Biography.It goes on to say he married "Unknown" and had three sons and three daughters.In a letter from Quincy, Florida, written 20 November 1838 to his brother Jesse, he stated that his eldest daughter Judith had died "about a year ago and left two children", having been married three years.Three sons were Joseph and John, both of whom died in Florida, and William, who died in Texas leaving issue.It is probable that he had a daughter Narcissa, who married William Macon Michaux, q. v.
