    Maud Powell Gordon, of Front Royal, Virginia died peacefully at home on April 25, 2011 in the loving presence of her husband of 64 years, Col. A.R. Gordon, Jr. (USAF Retired) and two daughters, Judy Gordon Mentlik of Westfield, NJ and Polly Gordon of Waldorf, MD.

    Maud was born May 23, 1926 in Greenville, NC.

    After retiring from the Federal Government, she enjoyed overseas travel with her husband. For many years she was an enthusiastic volunteer with the Samuels Public Library.

    In addition to her husband and daughters, she is survived by her wonderful grandchildren, Philip Cosmos Bell of New Zealand, Carly Mentlik of CA, Jacob Mentlik of ME and his life partner, Maia Campoamor and their children Osa and Quillan; her dear sister Alte Faust; sisters-in-law, Julia and Elsie Lammert; and numerous nieces and nephews.

    Memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork Street, Winchester, VA 22601.

    Arrangements are by Maddox Funeral Home, Inc., in Front Royal.

    71, of Worthville, died Wednesday at his home. He was a retired farmer and tobacco grader for the federal government, a member of Worthville Baptist Church and a Navy veteran of the Korean War.

    Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Spenneberg Terrell; daughters, Kathleen Terrell of Charlestown, S.C., Rebecca Bourne of Lipton, Ga.; sons, William T. Terrell of Kingsport, Tenn., and Burnard Ashley Terrell of Worthville; a sister, Margaret Ann Reese of Kingston, N.C.; a brother, Rufus P. Terrell of Southhill, Va.; and four grandchildren.

    Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Worthville Cemetery.

She received her B.S. degree from Longwood College in Farmville, Va. and taught home economics before becoming a homemaker. She was a member of Queen Street United Methodist Church for over 50 years and was a member of the church choir and The United Methodist Women. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2015, at Queen Street United Methodist Church with Senior Pastor Allen Bingham officiating. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Millard Griffin Reese Jr.; her son, Millard Griffin Reese III; and her brothers, Thad Terrell Jr. and Powell Terrell. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Glenda Reese of Kinston, N.C.; two granddaughters, Jessi Hodges and husband Chris, of Greenville, N.C. and Hayleigh Reese and fiancé Kevin Westmoreland, both of High Point, N.C.; and grandson, Chase Reese of Kinston, N.C. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1-2 p.m. (service time) at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Queen Street United Methodist Church c/o The Church Trust Fund P.O.     James "Jim" H. Purcell Jr., 88, better known as Coach Jim, Coach Purcell or known to his grandchildren and great grandchildren as Coachie passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was born in St. Petersburg, Florida, on November 6, 1935 to James H. Purcell Sr. and Hughes Powell Purcell. He graduated from St. Petersburg High School then went on to the University of Florida in Gainesville to become a Florida Gator! In 1964 he returned to Gainesville to get his masters. After graduating from the College of Physical Education and Health at U.F. he joined the U.S. Army. He spent most of his service in Korea. He said many times how much living over there made him appreciate America. When he completed his service, he moved to Kissimmee to teach and coach at the Osceola High School and Beaumont Middle School. Jim was a member of the Silver Spurs Riding Club and was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award Coca Cola Cowboy in 2011. He was also a member of the Jacob Summerlin Camp Sons of Confederate Veterans, he was a longtime member of the Kissimmee Elks Lodge #1873.
    Jim survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Sandra Beach Purcell, three children: Jimmie (Tina) Purcell, Rawl (Michelle) Purcell and Beth Lanier; eight grandchildren: Jacob Purcell, Colby Purcell, Carson Purcell, Ryder Purcell, Paris Purcell, Chase Lanier, Dalton Lanier and Denton Lanier; three great grandchildren: Cole Lanier, Brody Lanier and Riley Lanier.
    Graveside services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 23, 2024 with Pastor Leonard Thompson, HeartCry Chapel, St. Cloud, FL., Officiating. There will be no formal visitation.

    Funeral services for Miss Owen will be held May 25 at 11 a.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Averette
