    May 17, 2011 - 05:59:28 pm CDT. Yanceyville (Caswell
    County, North Carolina) - Helen Pearl Powell Hodges, 90,
    formerly of 169 Oak Tree St., passed away Wednesday, May
    11, 2011 at Brian Health and Rehabilitation Facility,
    following a long period of declining health. She was born
    in Caswell County April 23, 1921 to William Thomas Powell
    and Sue Mitchell Powell. Funeral Services were held
    Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Prospect United
    Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. David Grissom Interment
    followed in the church cemetery. Mrs. Hodges was a native
    of the Purley Community and was married in 1943 to Roy
    Irvin "Jiggs" Hodges for 49 years. They later moved to
    Yanceyville. She had been a resident of the Alzheimer's
    unit of the Brian Health and Rehabilitation Facility for
    the past five years. She was a homemaker and a member of
    Prospect United Methodist Church, where she had served as a
    Sunday School Teacher, in the children's department and was
    active in the United Methodist Women's organization, and
    was awarded a lifetime membership for service. As a member
    of the Rose Garden Club of Yanceyville, she held numerous
    positions during a span of years in the 1950s and 1960s.
    Mrs. Hodges held the position of Registrar for Yanceyville
    voting precinct for 20 years. She acquired a reputation for
    outstanding culinary skills as her luscious homemade layer
    cakes and pies were always in demand. Dining in her home
    was always a memorable occasion for guests.

    The family wants to acknowledge the dedicated Staff of the
    Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation Facility of
    Yanceyville and Community Home Care and Hospice. Survivors
    are son William Irvin "Billy" Hodges, daughter-in-law
    Brenda Wood Hodges, granddaughter Laura Beth Hodges Calhoun
    and grandson-in-law Jared Calhoun, and two sisters-in-law,
    Jeannine Hodges of Reidsville and Naomi Hodges of Fort
    Pierce, Fla. In addition to her parents, her husband Roy
    Irvin "Jiggs" Hodges, brothers, Frank Powell, William
    "Bill" Powell, Fred Powell, and sisters Garnett P. Brooks
    and Mary Mitchell P. Wellens predeceased her. The family
    received friends immediately following the committal
    service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers,
    memorials may be made to Prospect United Methodist Church,
    c/o Bobby Brewer, P.O. Box 58, Yanceyville, NC 27379.
    Harrelson Funeral Service is assisting the Hodges family
    with arrangements.
