    September 25, 2003 Clarice R. Burg, "Recie", died September 25, 2003, aged 79, of Hamden, CT. She was predeceased by her parents J. Winthrop Pennock, M.D. and Clarice Hewitt Leavell Pennock of Syracuse, NY. She was the beloved mother of John Begemann (Ann, Marianne Begemann (Steve Kenney), Clarice Begemann, and Paul Begemann (Jill). Beloved sister to twin Marian Pennock Williams of Syracuse, NY and to Eunice Pennock Kaymen of Branford, CT. She will be missed by the loving father of her children, Egbert Haverkamp-Begemann, their 10 grandchildren and many dear friends and relatives. She was predeceased by brother "Jackie" Pennock. She was raised in Syracuse and attended the Goodyear School there. A graduate of Vassar College, she went on to study child development and art history at Bank Street, the Institute of Fine Arts, Harvard and in Italy as a Fulbright scholar. While raising her children in Hamden, Recie devoted time and effort to civil rights, working with Project Concern and fair housing. All children were very special to Recie. She worked at the spring Glen and Yale Divinity Nursery Schools, earned a Masters in Special Education at SCSU, and retired after teaching preschool special education at Celantano School in New Haven. Recie loved traveling, sailing, opera, Mozart, the Mets, and being in Upstate New York with her extended family at The Pines on Skaneateles Lake. A memorial celebration of Recie's life will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 1009 Main Street (on the Green), Branford, CT. Donations in her memory may be made to New Haven Scholarship Fund, Inc., PO Box 8936, New Haven, CT 06532-0936 or to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are in care of Oak Grove Cremation Service, West Haven, CT.
