    STONE, Alice Carter, 87, of Blacksburg, died Sunday, February 13, 1994 in Wheatland Hills Retirement Center, Radford. Mrs. Stone was a native of Halifax, Va., born on June 5, 1906, a daughter of the late Thomas Townes Jr. and Birdie Wooding Carter. She was a retired elementary school teacher and was preceded in death by her husband, Brandon Otway Stone. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth S. B. and Lawrence M. Potter, Warsaw, N.C.; three grandchildren and spouses, Elizabeth Carter Byers and Nevin Caldwell, Cleveland, Tenn., Mary Brandon Byers and Scott A. Ligon, Richmond, John Ray III and Wendy C. Byers, Blacksburg; four great-grandchildren, Katherine Carter Byers, Emily Anne Byers, Caroline Marie Byers, and David Aaron Caldwell; one niece; four nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 16, 1994, at Blacksburg Baptist Church, with Dr. Ray Allen officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Books for Children, C/O Blacksburg Branch, Montgomery County Library, 400 Draper Road, Blacksburg, Va. 24060 or Blacksburg Baptist Church, 550 North Main Street, Blacksburg, Va. 24060. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home and Wednesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at Blacksburg Baptist Church
