- John Bigger testified in the Chancery case, that "about the beginning of the War in America with Great Britan that Theodorick Carter Sen. and Waddill Carter bought in partnership a Still of a certain Henry Coldwell; as he this diplomat well remembers to have heard the Sen. Theodorick and Waddill Carter often say; and this deponant further saith that the fivalays understood that the said Still was used in partnership by the said Theodorick and Waddill Carter as their joint property and this informant often saw the said Still at the said Theorodick Carters and since the death of the said Theodorick Carter, he frequently saw the said Still at Samuel Carters, the plaintiff and he this deponent further saith that he always understood from the said Samuel Carter and said Waddill Carter both that it was their joint property and was kept by them alternately."

Mildred Wade married Waddill Carter c.1765. They had five children together: 1. James Carter 2. Thoedrick Carter 3. Elizabeth Carter 4. Mildred Wade Carter, who married Anderson Wade in 1799 5. John Carter Waddill died in 1782 and Mildred remarried in 1790 to Robert Anderson. Apparently, Robert Anderson died in 1802 and Mildred Anderson remarried Mr. Joseph Lewis.

Republican Party Committee of Correspondence, in Virginia 1800
23 Jan 1800 friends of Thomas Jefferson met in Richmond to decide on a course of how best to elect their candidate in the presidential election to be held in November of that year. Other stated goals were to elect Republican [now the Democratic party] candidates to other elective offices in the Old Dominion and the United States Congress. This convention determined that a "general committee of correspondence to consist of five persons in or near the city of Richmond whose duty it shall be forthwith to inform the several persons agreed upon as Electors, that a poll will be taken for them at the ensuing election in confidence of their attahcment of Liberty...." Of course this committee needed people to correspond with, and county committees were formed. These committees consisted of the following individuals

Thomas Miller, Goochland C.H.; James Carter, Archlaus Perkins, Wm. Miller (Lcker) and Smith Payne.

In 1808, James Carter, s/o Waddill Carter, testified on behalf of his Mother, now Mildred Lewis, that he personally heard his Father, Waddill expound on the overuse of the said still. He further states that in 1791 he left Prince Edward Co., VA; his deposition was taken in Goochland.

She was of Goochland Co., Va in her broth James' will of 1805.
* Harriet [Harriet M] (1780->1853) [See the page dedicated to this our direct ancestor] She was "Of Philadelphia" in her brother's will of 1805, but married twice in Virginia, the second marriage yielding our directs.
* Julia [Juliana] (1788-1836) married Neil [Neil McCLOUD] McCOULL, a merchant of Virginia, with 5 children of union known. She was of Goochland Co., Va in her broth James' will of 1805 in which she is not yet married.
* Charles Franklin (1793-1883) married Sarah Wharton ROBESON [1799-1877] . Three children of union. Mentioned in his brother James' will; married Nov. 15, 1815, children: JAMES, born Sept. 26, 1816; died Dec. ig, 1866, unmarried. SALLY ROBESON, born May 14, 18ig; married JAMES SIMPSON NEWBOLD. CHARLES, born Dec. 2, 1821; died July 3, 1822.
