Men of the community or adjoining communities would contest with each other in the skill of riding a horse at full tilt down a track and by means of a long lance, pick off rings suspended from poles by putting the lance through the rings. It was at such a meet that Johnson first met Mary Brumfield, who won his heart.
William Garrett and his wife and children were charter members of Greenpond Baptist Church. It is said that they gave the wood for the first little church building. Their love for our Lord and service to Him are a treasured heritage.
William Garrett Reynolds published his last will and testament January 9, 1868 and died 19 days later.
William Garrett Reynolds was named for his maternal grandmother, Ann Garrett, mother of Sarah Ann Philpott.
William Garrett Reynolds was a farmer, and a Baptist. He was a member of the Home Guards during the Civil War. He lived in Both Pittsylvania and Henry Counties, Virginia. His last place of residence was near Climax, Virginia.

1111. BERRYMAN REYNOLDS, son of William
(1110) and Elizabeth (Pearman) Reynolds, m.
11-16-1829 Nancy Adkins. Issue: J. William,
who m. 12-22-1857 Rebecca Mahan.
This incorrect entry by S.F. TILLMAN is among many in this book. Berryman Reynolds was the s/o Nancy Ford and Joseph M. Reynolds of Pittsylvania. Issue J. William who m. Rebecca Mahan 12/22/1857 is also incorrect. 'J. William' is John Wyatt Reynolds who married Rebecca Mahan. These individuals are NOT in the Christopher Reynolds lines of descent. -Mary Frances Eggleston
1110. WILLIAM REYNOLDS, son of William

[The William Reynolds who married Elizabeth Pearman is another mistake by TILLMAN] This William Reynolds is NOT of the Christopher Reynolds lines of descent. He is the s/o John Reynolds of Culpepper County. William came to Pittsylvania county about the time of his father's death and lived on the other side of the county from our Reynolds who descend from Hugh Reynolds. The children listed by TILLMAN are the Descendants of Hugh Reynolds of Pittsylvlania Co., VA; Margaret B. Reynolds; m. John Wilson Reynolds was the d/o Wm. Reynolds and Nancy Blair. Bartlett m. Cordelia Cook is Barton Thomas Reynolds, the s/o William Garrett Reynolds and his wife, Elizabeth Elvira 'Betsy' Blair, as is John S. Reynoldswho did marry Alice Holt 2nd after the death of his first wife, Mary Elizabeth Robertson.]- Mary Frances Eggleston
