      Mr. Richard Alan "Loose" Wells, age 82 of 458 Granville Drive, Danville, VA went to be his Lord died at his residence after a decline in health for the past three years. He was the son of the late Jabez Peter Wells, Sr. and the late Claudine Jarrett Wells. He had lived in Danville his entire life where he owned and operated Wells Siding and Trim Company for many years until his retirement. He was of member of First Baptist Church. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion, Dan River Post 1097 and American Legion Post #325.
      He attended V.P.I for two years. He was a catcher for the Danville Leafs of the Carolina League in 1950, when he caught for 109 games. He was a Professional Baseball Clown from 1953 to 1955. His contortion act as a clown is what earned him the nickname "Loose". He was a coach and Director of the Danville Youth Baseball for many years. He announced the George Washington Eagles Football Games for WBTM for many years. He was also known as the Number One (#1) Fan of the George Washington High School Football Team and a member of the Fan Club. He was a member of the Danville Register and Bee Sports "Hall of Fame".
      On September 22, 1951, he married Opal White Wells, who survives. In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by four children, Richard Alan Wells, Jr. and wife, Teresa of Danville, Nina W. Bailey and husband, John of Danville, Nathan J. Wells and wife, Sandra of Leland, N.C., P.C. Wells and wife, Julie of Martinsville, one brother, Reverend Lynwood D. Wells and wife, Anna of Martinsville, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Jabez Peter Wells, Jr. A memorial service was held at Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church with the Reverend Frederick J. Vicks and the Reverend Lynwood D. Wells officiating. Military Rites were conducted by the US Army.
      Rev. Linwood D. Wells, who preached at his memorial service, is his brother.
