Catherine Wells, born 1756 in Lunnenburg Co., Virginia; died in Tennessee. She married (1) James Morton 1776; died 1822.

Further discussion regarding Catherine Wells and misinformation regarding a 2nd marriage attributed to her; but found to be incorrect.

      Hi Jack,
Your concern has to be correct. I checked the narrative you sent me via the link, BUT also checked other official information. The marriage of Thomas C. Black and Catherine Morton on May 5, 1835, Rutherford Co., TN is correct, but it's a transcription instead of from an original image. Validating that, I first went to the 1850 census (original image) and found a Thomas C. Black and wife Catherine with family; their eldest child 13 or born about 1836, so that's pretty conclusive that the marriage detail applies to the same people in the 1850 census. Plus, he's a physician, and that matches the narrative you sent me. The part in the 1850 census that compels me is the birth locations with everyone born in Tennessee except the overseer who was born in Alabama; census' aren't always absolutely correct, but they're more correct than they are no. So I'd say that the Catherine Morton involved in the marriage, at age 33 from the census, was likely born in Tennessee too. Lastly, since the Virginia Catherine (Wells) Morton was born in about 1757 in Virginia, if close to true even if not exact, she would have been about 75 in 1835 when the above marriage took place, and then had at least 6-children thereafter (impossible).
In hindsight into Christine Bullocks details, I figure that the Catherine Morton in the Tennessee marriage had a maiden name of Morton. Unfortunately, she or someone made a leap of faith that they were the same person. For whatever the reason, it's not possible for Catherine (Wells) Morton, born about 1757 in Virginia, to be the same Catherine (Morton) Black in Rutherford Co., TN either in the 1850 census or as married in 1835.
I've deleted Thomas C. Black from my database and any references to Catherine Morton as the wife. What remains is Catherine Well's marriage to James Morton in about 1776. Unfortunately, the detail I have for James Morton and Catherine Wells also came from Christine Bullock too, so I'm now not convinced that the surrounding detail on that specific Wells family is correct. I have two interests in that specific family but neither are important, just relevant: 1: The Wells surname!: linked to me, related to me, and among the first families settling Southside Virginia; and 2: (most important) is Judith Wells, who married Jabez Gravely (my 3d great-granduncle) on Mar. 27, 1797 in Henry Co., Va., so their descendants are my kin. I usually include siblings, in this case of Judith Wells, so that viewers of my web site can see what I have, that they can scrutinize my content and correct problems, or validate what they think or know so that they have located the correct family of interest. That's probably way too much detail, but I like to put things to bed if dialogue indicates I've got something wrong. If you don't object, I'll wait until April 1st to modify the content, but if this is something that you'd rather see fixed immediate, then let me know because I'm the only person that's totally responsible for anything appearing on my web site, and the web site is wholly mine.
      Thanks Jack!

Here is a FAG Memorial 137837586 for Catharine Wells Morton 1758 - 1827, which differs from info on your website http://reynoldspatova.com/getperson.php?personID=I8097&tree=reynolds1

CWM is the daughter of my great grandfather Jonathan Wells, 4 times removed, FAG 93322525.our website mentions a second marriage of CWM to Thomas C Black in 1835.
Here is some info on his wife Catharine W Morton Black:
THOMAS C. BLACK, a leading druggist of Lewisburg, and a native of Rutherford County, was reared on the farm and educated in the common schools. He is the son of Thomas C. and Catherine W. (Morton) Black. The parents were natives of Rutherford County, Tenn.; the father born in 1808 and the mother 1816.
