      CARROLLTON ? Mr. Baxter (Shack) Garfield Osborne, born April 21, 1919, in Martinsville, VA, passed away July 5, 2002, at the age of 83. Married April 17, 1939, Shack is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Jewell Reynolds Osborne. He and Jewell have lived for the past 23 wonderful years on Osborne Lane in Carrollton, VA.

      Shack loved his garden and provided its bounty to all. He retired after 28 years as a welder/instructor at Newport News Shipbuilding, then installed 90% of the septic systems for friends in Isle of Wight County. He was a Baptist by faith.

      was preceded in death by his mother, Rose, and father, Jim; two sisters, Elizabeth and Hulde; and brothers, William and Roy.

      Shack is also survived and missed by his sister, Ruby of South Carolina; brother, Harry of Virginia; and all that knew him.

      Visitation will be on Monday, July 8, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., with a service at 7 p.m. by Pastor Hall, at Peninsula Funeral Home. Burial will be in Martinsville, VA.
