      45. Taliaferro Family

      The immigrant of this family, was the grandson of Barthelomew Taliaferro, born ca. 1530, Venice, Italy, died 1601 in London, England., married Jan. 1, 1583/4 in London, Joane Lane. Their son, Francis born ca. 1590, London, died Aug. 19, 1647, Middlesex, England, married Bennett Hale, 1613/4 in Surrey, England. Their son, Robert Taliaferro, came from England and settled on the Rappahannok River. He received land patents in Gloucester Co., VA in 1655 and patented 6,300 acres there in 1662.

      ROBERT TALIAFERRO, born Nov. 11, 1626, Middlesex, England, died before Nov. 20, 1672, his will witnessed in York Co., VA in 1647, married ca. 1650 in VA, Sarah Grymes, the daughter of Charles Grymes and Frances Jennings.

      JOHN TALIAFERRO, born 1656, Caroline Co. VA, died Jun/ 21,1720, married ca. 1680 VA, Sarah Smith, the daughter of Major Lawrence Smith who died 1700 a member of the General Assembly in 1679 and came to VA ante 1650 and his wife Mary.
      John was known as "John the Ranger" and was Justice of Essex Co., VA and sheriff in 1699.
