Ella Coward
DANVILLE, Va. - Ella Merricks Coward, 80, of 537 Ricketts St., died
Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at Stratford House of Danville.
Born Nov. 16, 1918, in Callands, she was the daughter of William
Merricks and Bessie Wright Merricks.
She was married to Frederick Herman Coward on Nov. 25, 1937.
She worked for Healthtex as an inspector until her retirement. She was a
member of County Line Christian Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include four sons,
Jerry W. Coward, Milton W. Coward, Bobby S. Coward, all of Danville,
and Maynard H. Coward; two brothers, Walter "Dooley" Merricks of
Dry Fork and Jack Irvin Merricks of Callands; three sisters, Ava M.
Willis of Dry Fork, Marie M. Wood of Swansonville, and Pauline M.
Woodall of Axton; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Wallace Merricks and Odie
Merricks; and one sister, Helen Merricks.
A funeral will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at County Line Christian Church
with the Rev. Ken Hall and the Rev. Dean Ashby officiating. Burial will be
in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7:30-9 p.m. at Barker Funeral
Home Chapel and other times at the residence.
