  Joseph Alpha Carter, Jr. was the second son of Mattie Frances Carter and J.A. Carter Sr. He died of pneumonia in a CCC work camp in Lynchburg, Virginia where he had sought work after the war when the depression was causing widespread unemployment. He was never married and had no issue.
